Ok…before letting loose with predictable references to shoplifting, kleptomania, etc…let us point out two important details about this story:
1. Bulgari Jewelers have neither confirmed or denied the disappearance of a diamond encrusted bracelet and matching ring loaned to actress/forgetful shopper
Winona Ryder last week for a magazine party in Spain.
2. The only media source confirming police involvement is specious English tabloid
The Daily Mirror, who in their report say Bulgari only “
apparently called in the police.” The name of their article: “
Winona Ryder investigated by police.”
Here’s what’s being reported:
On November 23rd, just days after her
mysterious hospitalization in London, the Pink Panther…er,
Winona Ryder was loaned the bracelet and ring to wear during a
Marie Claire event held in Madrid. Conflicting reports put the jewelry’s value at somewhere between $125,000 and $164,000.
According to French magazine Voici, Ryder later claimed to have left the jewels with her hotel’s front desk in a sealed envelope the following morning; a claim unsupported by the review of security-camera footage. According to TMZ, after attempting to locate Marie Claire employees in the lobby, Ryder simply left the jewelry in her room, checking out of the hotel at 6:00am. TMZ also refutes Voici’s report that Ryder said she left the jewelry with hotel staff.
TMZ goes on to suggest that whoever planted the
Voici story “may be covering up for someone who had access to the room after [37 year-old “Alien Resurrection” co-star
Winona Ryder] left.”
So what does it all mean?
1. With at least one phony detail in the deck, this caper’s a long way from being solved.
2. It’s never a good idea to “loan” really pricey stuff to a woman with a shoplifting conviction…even if she was in “Beetlejuice.”
