LENNY KRAVITZ: I Am Not Joining VELVET REVOLVER
- Aug. 12, 2008
|
|
Lenny Kravitz has shot down as false Internet reports that he is set to become the new singer of VELVET REVOLVER. The singer told RollingStone.com, "I know and love the VELVET REVOLVER guys but there is no truth to the story about me joining their band." The UK's The Sun claimed that Kravitz was "spotted" in the studio with the now-singer-less VELVET REVOLVER and a quoted a "source" as saying, " VELVET REVOLVER's new album will draw heavily on their messy split with [former singer] Scott [ Weiland]. The band wanted a big name who could easily hold his own and reckon Lenny is just the man for the job." VELVET REVOLVER bassist Duff McKagan told Billboard.com last week that the band has not decided on a new lead singer yet, and reports that former SPACEHOG vocalist Royston Langdon had all but nailed the job are premature. McKagan confirmed that the group did audition Langdon, saying he's "fucking awesome," but adding that "at this point I'd have to say no" to Langdon getting the gig. McKagan explained, "We just have to make sure it's the right guy. Karmically, we deserve the right guy. It's a tough thing, man. We make a pretty big noise."

I'm dissappointed. I would have loved for that to happen. I think Lenny is one of the only 'big names' that can make it work... Take a dude with a multi-platinum solo career, and put him with a band of rock titans like the guys in VR... it's a no brainer.
Chris Cornell, Perry Farrell, Sabastian Bach, Scott Weiland...etc. It's all bound to fail, when the guy already has his entire legacy tied to fronting another band.

It's probably David Cook from American Idol or some shit like that. Whatever it is, it will be a huge publicity stunt to get back old fans and find some new ones. Slash and Duff are great players but this smells of record label shit.

To those who think that Lenny is too big and has too much solo success to join a band, you should keep in mind that David Bowie joined Tin Machine in the 80s.
But then again, that didn't last either.

Now we have to figure out who it will be. So far, here's who it won't be.
1. Lenny Kravitz- Confirmed 2. Chester Bennington- Confirmed plus he still has Linkin Park 3. Royston Langdon- Confirmed, probably the label killed this one 4. Travis Meeks- Shot down last time, and McKagen killed it a few months ago 5. Bach- Confirmed, and VR shot him down anyway 6. Josh Todd- Shot down last time and Buckcherry is doing well 7. John Corabi, Oni Logan or the dude from the Snakepit- Minor League players don't get to start the world series. There is too much money into VR to let the little boys get a shot.
Who it Could be
1. Perry Farrell- I just don't get this one. His voice just doesn't fit. 2. Chris Cornell- Would be great, but I don't see it. His ego. 3. Robert Plant- This would be the perfect excuse to put off a Zep reunion forever. Would be badass. 4. Scott Stapp- Guarantee the label brought this one up. Won't happen.

Kaputo would be perfect for the job but let him still keep his solo career and even take life of agony on tour too. or just fint someone new, the guys have enough money so they can do it just for fun and for music sakes!!! sell or nosell!!

bummer...and right now, Lenny does not have a sucessful solo career, 2 albums in a row that are selling poorly. He could use that career boost. It was a good fit. Now I hope its Perry F, but he's getting old too, 49. (though he's like Peter Pan)....the Royston thing might have worked, but I'm sure they were worried he wasn't established enough. Or the record label was.

This is ridiculous... every day it's someone else. First Royston, now Lenny, next it'll be Scott Stapp. Who in the world wants him in the band...please! You know what if you're not gonna get back Axl (which we all know should happen and eventually will) go get Ian Thornley. Everyone wants Cornell but he's off with Timbaland. So, the next best thing is Thornley. He sounds like Cornell and is a great frontman... check out Big Wreck!

Travis Meeks is a different kind of musician, he is an artist not a rock star, that totally wouldn't work.
Best choice would be........Whitfield Crane dammit! Why is he not getting any props, there is nothing that guy can't sing. My second vote would be for Corabi. He would fit the style and he is pretty good songwriter. Made the Crue sound like more than just a glam band for one album anyway.

The most kick-ass choice would be to go back to the beginning. The only reason Izzy didn't stick around was because he didn't want a lead singer -- obviously he was dead-on there. They should get him to come back and sing, or at least share lead time with Duff, that would be badass.

Izzy Stradlin would be, without a doubt, the best man for the job. Izzy has such a style and substance that few have. His Guns songs that he sang and his solo stuff are so raw and refreshing.
It will never happen but holy shit, that would be great.

Whitfield Crane would be interesting. The guy can sign great and brings enough of experience with him. Though rumors are the guy just doesn't have alot of drive (don't even need to get into his pot habits as its well known). Otherwise they guy is a great frontman all the way around. Plus I think he fits the style of music.
Perry Farrel makes about as much sense as Lenny Kravitz. Which is ZERO.
In the end I think it maybe a nobody or a very unheard of frontman for some little to no success band. If it was a bigger name then the deal would've been done by now. This is being dragged out quite a bit since it was only about three years ago they went through all this BS.
Who freaking knows...........by the time this gets sorted out Axl might be calling. You just know that is in the future at some point. There has been no bashing on either side of that feud for a good year plus now. Use to be just a straight NO anytime it was ever brought up for ten freaking years or however long its been. I can just see it now VH1 BAND REUNITED jumping the fence into Axl's compound. Since he is such an understanding guy I'm sure he'd have no problem listen to what they have to say. It would be classic.

there is someone thats been in hiding for the last 5 years or so. Excellent guy with a great voice and can really sign anything. He'd also bring shitload to the table in the song writing process. Great frontman that is unknown by many people. Plus he is pro that you don't have worry about going off the deep end.

He has stated numerous times the road life isn't for him. He says he can take small doses here and there. But come on VR is a big time gig that will months out of every year to tour. Plus Izzy's style today is quite a bit different then what VR is doing.

Velvet Revolver should just break-up. It's a band full of ego's. Any singer that they get would either have a big ego, or would have to deal with a bunch of ego's. Truthfully, their music is just average, yet they still act like they are the best rock band on earth. Slash and Duff should just put their ego's on hold until they can work something out with Axl then combine ego's.
Who it Could be
1. Perry Farrell- I just don't get this one. His voice just doesn't fit. (and the band would hate his creativity). 2. Chris Cornell- Would be great, but I don't see it. His ego.( A completely true statement. Plus he is not even concerned with doing rock anymore, he cares more about himself). 3. Robert Plant- This would be the perfect excuse to put off a Zep reunion forever.(Which would suck) Would be badass. However they actually want someone one that is a little younger for chick to cling on. 4. Scott Stapp- Guarantee the label brought this one up. Won't happen.

Lenny's got some awesome rocking songs. He knows how to rock! There were some funny comments saying otherwise. It appears these people wouldn't know what rock was if one hit them in the head, lol. Perhaps it's because all they listen to is Metal. That would explain alot... I for one like VR. The best name I heard mentioned was Izzy, although we all know that wouldn't happen. I'm glad that alot of the people rumoured have comfirmed they are NOT joining VR. Thanks, you guys aren't big enough or good enough to front Velvet Revolver. As for who's left on this so-called rumour list, I hope none of these guys get the gig either. Perry is cool and all but hasn't the right voice. Some turd from Lincon Park was mentioned. The fact that he is or was in such a band should EXCLUDE him by default for the many obvious reasons. Corabi? The guy from Space Hog? Some other obscure names? I don't know who it could be. The new singer obviously would have to be a Big Name who's had some multi-platinum success. But who? Scott was the man, it's too bad he couldn't keep it together. That was too bad. Mike Patton already turned them the 1st time around. He's the best by the way! And Axl can't sing anymore, so I wouldn't want him or Guns n' Roses reunion anyhow. I don't know what to say other than, I hope it's NOT some singer that has been rumoured here by the fans or some article. I'm sure they will get a good singer though, it's just a matter of time.
PS: Metal Sucks

KRAVITZ has completely the wrong voice for this outfit
These guys need to find someone with a little more bite to their notation
It's a shame that it seems they'll be aiming to Annex an already “made celeb” for the slot. Kind of sensationalize the whole process, and bring a big name in to acquire their crowd (which I can understand from a “board-room” perspective)… as there really is so, SO much talent left in the rock underground that would (musically) blow these guys into the next decade of brilliance
All they have to do is look through their Friends list on their myspace to find and jack someone with a pair of lungs! I’m sure there are bands in their list that are almost (if not: Just as) talented as half the people their auditioning… ha! “Guys, … err… I just got a message from slash… Fraid’ next week’s gig at the bar is cancelled, I’m busy”…

the problem with the Lenny's or Perry's is they may be up for it for an album, tour, but then bail for there 1st priorities. They probably do need someone hungry, but then the album might not get noticed. Tough time for rock bands to get radio play...of course they'd need to write good songs. Weiland is great(sober), but not sure if he was a great mix for slash especially. Farrell might be more the same, creatively.
