Lesbian Kiss at Baseball Game Lights Controversy

Sirbrina Guerrero at Safeco

Sirbrina Guerrero and her lesbian date at a recent Seattle Mariners game against the Boston Red Sox at Safeco Field in Seattle were asked by an usher to stop making out.  The usher explained he had received a complaint from the mother of a young boy sitting nearby.

“I was really just shocked,” Guerrero said. “Seattle is so gay-friendly. There was a couple like seven rows ahead making out. We were just showing affection.”On Monday, Mariners spokeswoman Rebecca Hale said that the club is investigating but that the usher was responding to a complaint of two women “making out” and “groping” in the stands. As the Mariners played the Boston Red Sox on May 26, Sirbrina Guerrero and her date were approached in the third inning by an usher who told them their kissing was inappropriate, Guerrero said.

The usher, Guerrero said, told them he had received a complaint from a woman nearby who said that there were kids in the crowd of nearly 36,000 and that parents would have to explain why two women were kissing.

The Mariners have a public policy that is announced before each game that states public displays of affection are not allowed at the ballpark.  The policy is policed by what a “reasonable person” would find to be a public display of affection.

I am sure Guerrero and her partner will sue and attempt to extort the Mariners for millions of dollars.  I have a feeling they aren’t the only couple, gay or straight, to be told stop making out at a baseball game before.  Live and let live this shouldn’t even be in the news.

I always thought it was silly that they made the announcement over and over again through the loudspeakers before the game started that public displays of affection were forbidden at the game; considering that they also say that violations of any of their laws could lead to being removed from the stadium, I’d say that being asked to stop making out is a nicer alternative.
