Uma Thurman Struggles Against Stalker in NY Court

Uma Thurman will testify Tuesday, April 29, in a New York City court, against the 37-year-old man who has been stalking her for years now, following her to her home and on the set of her movies.

Actress Uma Thurman may turn 38 today but it’s a celebration marred by the fact that she is scheduled to testify in Manhattan criminal court later on Monday or early on Tuesday, Reuters reports citing court officials.

Jack Jordan, a 37-year-old man from Maryland, is accused of following and trying to contact Thurman for two years, from early 2005 to the time of his arrest in fall 2007. Prosecutors said in court he had tried to communicate with the actress “with the intent to harass, annoy, threaten and alarm.”

Jordan is accused of having attempted to contact Thurman’s father and brother by sending them emails and or waiting around on the steps of her Manhattan apartment or sleeping outside her house in a car.

He is also accused of having followed her to the set of her movies and even attempted to break into her trailer. Jordan also allegedly threatened to commit suicide if the actress had a relationship with another man.

The man was arrested in October outside Thurman’s house in New York.

It is known that he has received psychiatric treatment in the past. Lawyer George Vomvolakis emphasized that his client is a troubled man who “does not think the way you and I think.”

“He loved her and possibly still does. He never wanted to annoy her, threaten her or alarm her. Creepy? Yes. Obsessed? Yes. Criminal? No,” Vomvolakis said at the start of the trial.

“He doesn't know the boundaries you and I know,” he told the jury.

Assistant district attorney Colleen Walsh responded that Jordan engaged in “emotional blackmail” of Thurman and her family, threatening her brother he would kill himself if he did not hear from the actress within 24 to 48 hours. “Enough is enough,” Walsh said. “The price of fame is not this high.”

Jordan is free on $10,000 bail. If convicted, he faces up to one year in jail.
