Shia LaBeouf Travels "The Dark Fields"

Shia LaBeouf has been announced as the star of upcoming thriller “The Dark Fields,” directed by Neil Burger for Universal Pictures.

Shia LaBeouf explores the darker side once more portraying a “loser” who obtains a to-secret pharmaceutical product that enhances his intellectual abilities in “The Dark Fields,” according to the Hollywood Reporter.

While financial and social success quickly follows, LaBeouf’s character also learns that there is a price to pay: lethal and lasting side effects, including “trip-switching,” a phenomenon in which time moves with a stop-motion quality, per the Reporter.

The story was penned by Burger and Dirk Wittenborn. The script is based on the book by Alan Glynn. Leslie Dixon and Intermedia’s Scott Kroopf are producing. Peter Cramer is overseeing for Universal.

“The Dark Fields” reportedly resembles “Fight Club” and “The Game.”

LaBeouf next stars in the adventure film “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull,” as Mutt Williams, Indiana's sidekick. The greatly expected fourth installment of the Indiana Jones franchise, directed by Steven Spielberg and produced by George Lucas, is slated for a May release.

LaBeouf also appears in “Eagle Eye,” a political thriller film directed by D. J. Caruso (who also directed the young actor in 2007’s thriller “Disturbia”), slated for a fall release.

LaBeouf is currently filming the late Anthony Minghella-scripted segment of “New York, I Love You,” an anthology film of 12 short films set in each of the city’s five boroughs.

LaBeouf appears with Julie Christie and John Hurt in the segment written by the late Anthony Minghella and directed by Shekhar Kapur, who stepped in after the director died.

“New York, I Love You” is similar to “Paris, Je T'aime,” which focused on love encounters in the City of Lights. The next city in the series, called the “Cities of Love” franchise, is Shanghai, followed by a location in South America and then Africa, reports the HR.
