Michael Johns Speaks About His Shocking Elimination

Michael Johns, the latest contestant who got eliminated from the “American Idol” has given several interviews, speaking about what happened and his future plans.

The Aussie rocker was eliminated on Thursday, after he performed Aerosmith’s song “Dream On” during Tuesday’s inspirational-themed show in a rocker wannabe attempt. He added a little corniness, explaining that he had chosen the song because he believed all dreams could come true if you believed in them and you worked really hard.

Unfortunately, two of the judges, Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson were unsatisfied by Michael’s performance. Simon Cowell even called it too “wannabe-ish.”

When asked by the reporters if he regretted choosing that particular song, Johns explained that “Dream On” meant something special to him.

“I've never chosen a song based on what the competition is doing. It's like I pick songs that mean something to me, lyrically and emotionally. So to sing Dream On by Aerosmith with a 20-piece orchestra, it's amazing,” he said in an interview for USA Today.

Paula Abdul was the sole judge to praise Michael’s selection, considering it perfect and she expressed her support for Johns even after he was eliminated.

“Paula grabs me and goes, "Look, I have no doubt in my mind that I'm going to a concert you're doing one day. You're super-talented," said Johns during his interview.

The elimination of Michael Johns, who was born in Perth, Australia, but is living in Los Angeles, has came as a shocking surprise for the audience. Johns was also surprised because he had never been in the bottom three.

"I'd be lying if I said I wasn't surprised," Johns said, quoted by Entertainment Weekly. "I'd never been in the bottom three. I thought my strongest performances were the last two weeks.”

Also Johns added that he considered his performance of “It's All Wrong But It's All Right”, during the Dolly Parton week as his best moment during “American Idol”. For the next week, Michael Johns was preparing a soul version blues version of Mariah Carey’s “Vision of Love”

With Johns eliminated, the winner will be chosen from the remaining seven finalists:

Syesha Mercado, Carly Smithson, Brooke White, David Archuleta, David Cook, Jason Castro, and Kristy Lee Cook.

Earlier this week a survey by E-Poll Market Research on behalf of Reuters, indicated that 40 percent of the voters had chosen the 17-year-old Archuleta as the winner. But, when asked who the most talented contestant was, “Idol” fans answered differently. The baby-faced boy was beaten by rocker David Cook, with 31 percent to Archuleta’s 27.
