Back Injury Hasn't Cracked Phyllis Diller's Sense Of Humor As She Celebrates 90th Birthday

Phyllis DillerLOS ANGELES (AP) - Phyllis Diller was still cracking jokes as she turned 90 - even after cracking her back. ''I still take the Pill 'cause I don't want anymore grandchildren,'' Diller joked.

It's one of the age-related jokes the comedian had planned to dish out Tuesday during a birthday appearance on NBC's ''The Tonight Show With Jay Leno.''

But Diller fractured a bone in her back last week by twisting while lifting a heavy item, she told The Associated Press in a recent interview.

She had to postpone her appearance, but the late-night talk show sent her a get-well bouquet of white roses.

Three events were planned for her birthday, including a Tuesday dinner and a party for 50 people Saturday.

But Diller won't be doing any routines. She's using a wheelchair while recovering and ''you can't do standup sitting down,'' she said.
